Solar, Batteries and Balcony PV in Berlin

Berlin combines a mature rooftop market with balcony solar, registration requirements and city support programmes that need current checks.

Balcony photovoltaic system

Berlin has more than one solar path

Projects range from small plug-in balcony systems to full rooftop PV with batteries. The correct route depends on building ownership, usable roof or balcony area, electrical connection, household demand and the economics of self-consumption versus export.

Use current German registration and tariff information

Germany requires relevant energy installations to be registered in the Marktstammdatenregister. For PV commissioned from 1 August 2026 through 31 January 2027, the Bundesnetzagentur publishes updated EEG remuneration values; for building-mounted systems up to 10kW the published values include 8.10 ct/kWh for partial feed-in and 12.62 ct/kWh for full feed-in. Larger systems use different bands.

Berlin support can change separately from federal rules

Berlin’s SolarPLUS programme and city solar strategy provide local context, while federal grid, product and registration requirements remain separate. Always check the current programme conditions rather than assuming an older grant amount still applies.

What to compare

  • Balcony/plug-in versus conventional rooftop architecture
  • Usable roof area and module dimensions
  • Self-consumption, export and battery-shifting assumptions
  • Registration and grid-connection steps
  • Local installer and product-support availability
