Solar Monitoring Data Handover Checklist

Make sure solar and battery monitoring is handed over with owner access, device identifiers, CT orientation, export settings, alerts, privacy controls and a recoverable account.

Owner access should exist before the installer leaves

A completed system is harder to support if monitoring remains tied only to an installer account. Confirm the owner has the correct app or portal login, can see the intended devices, and knows how to recover the account. Where installer-admin access remains necessary for service, document the roles separately rather than sharing one password.

Check that the data describes the actual electrical flows

Compare monitoring values with inverter displays and meter readings while loads and PV output change. Reversed current transformers, incorrect phase mapping or misplaced meters can make imports look like exports or distort self-consumption. Correct sensor orientation before relying on dashboards for financial or performance decisions.

Record device identifiers and communications paths

Keep inverter serial numbers, battery identifiers, gateway IDs, meter model, communications method and relevant network details. The record should explain whether the system uses Ethernet, Wi-Fi, cellular or local fieldbus links and which components continue operating if the internet fails. Avoid storing reusable passwords in an unsecured handover document.

Export and battery-control settings should be visible

Document any grid export limit, zero-export mode, time-of-use schedule, backup reserve and battery charge/discharge restrictions. These settings can materially change energy flows even when the hardware is healthy. If a future technician changes them, there should be a baseline to compare against.

Alerts need an owner and a response path

Confirm who receives critical fault notifications after handover and what the owner should do when an alert appears. Some warnings are informational; others require the system to be isolated or serviced. Include installer and manufacturer support routes without exposing private installer research fields on the public site.

Preserve the commissioning snapshot

Save screenshots or exported reports showing normal operation after commissioning, together with the final single-line diagram and settings summary. Melnti’s commissioning checklist provides the wider handover record. Good baseline data makes later diagnosis faster because technicians can see what “normal” looked like on day one.
