Start with the exact installation manual
Clearance dimensions are product-specific. The required space above, below and beside a battery can depend on cooling method, service panels, cable entry and whether multiple units are installed together. Building and fire rules may add separation requirements beyond the product manual. Do not apply the dimensions from a different battery family just because the enclosures look similar.
Ventilation is not the same as leaving a random gap
Some sealed lithium systems rely on passive enclosure cooling, while others have defined air paths or active cooling. The installation environment must stay within temperature, humidity and altitude limits. Avoid placing equipment where stored objects, vegetation or later construction can block required air movement. If a dedicated room has mechanical ventilation requirements, those must be designed under the applicable local rules.
Protect access and the surrounding environment
The service location should allow technicians to reach disconnects, labels and removable covers without moving unrelated equipment. Consider vehicle impact, flooding, direct sun, corrosive atmosphere and combustible storage. Wall-mounted equipment also requires a structure capable of supporting the listed load and approved anchors.
Record the accepted layout
Before installation, document floor or wall position, dimensions to nearby equipment, doors and escape paths, cable routes and environmental controls. After installation, keep photographs and the manufacturer clearance drawing with the handover file. This makes later battery expansion or replacement much safer because the original design assumptions are visible.
Expansion space should be intentional
If the owner may add battery modules later, reserve the manufacturer-required mounting and service space now. Do not crowd the initial installation on the assumption that future modules can be fitted anywhere nearby; expansion often has strict cable, spacing and configuration limits.
