Jakarta turns solar into a roof-and-load-matching problem

Urban properties often have limited roof area relative to electricity demand. Air conditioning, home offices, retail and commercial loads can create strong daytime consumption, while apartment ownership and shared roofs can make installation rights more complicated.

Start with daytime demand

Because the 2024 Indonesian rooftop-PV framework no longer credits exported excess energy against the bill, the value of a residential or business system depends heavily on how much production is consumed on site. A high daytime load can improve self-consumption; a mostly evening load may increase the value of storage, though batteries add cost and conversion losses.
