Battery-market work appears in the quarterly report
The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko published its April–June 2026 quarterly report on 25 August. Among the highlighted workstreams are proposed changes to how battery energy storage systems operate in the market, framed around competition, flexibility, reliability and affordability.
Connection pricing and consumer information also moved forward
The same report highlights network connection-pricing reforms intended to address high up-front connection charges. It also lists an enhanced regional power-prices dashboard and a new solar installations map as consumer-information initiatives.
The work is regulatory progress, not a single final rule
Melnti records these items as workstreams and proposals described by the Authority. Product selection, export limits and battery-market participation still depend on the applicable final rules, network and equipment. Future New Zealand location pages should link local network evidence before becoming index-ready.
Local implementation still needs network-level research
New Zealand distribution networks can differ in connection process, pricing and hosting constraints. Melnti will use the Authority’s national work as background while keeping city and installer records noindex until the applicable local network, tariff and service-area evidence is strong enough for a useful standalone page.
