Australia maps interoperability requirements for future solar inverters, batteries and EV chargers

Australia’s August 2026 CER interoperability report maps 18 initial minimum requirements to technical standards for future solar inverters, home batteries and EV charging equipment; existing installed devices are not required to be retrofitted.

What was published

Australia’s Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water says Standards Australia delivered a Consumer Energy Resources interoperability report in August 2026. The work maps 18 initial minimum requirements to relevant technical standards and identifies gaps for future solar inverters, home batteries, EV chargers and other consumer energy resources.

What buyers should understand

The current work is aimed at future-device functionality and a nationally consistent technical framework; the government page says existing installed devices do not have to be retrofitted to meet the initial requirements. For buyers, interoperability is another reason to check communications, remote-control capability, supported energy-management functions and the exact inverter/battery ecosystem instead of comparing only headline power and capacity.
