Residential solar system

A system is more than the three headline components

Solar packages are often advertised as panels + inverter + battery. A durable installation also depends on mounting, DC and AC protection, correctly sized conductors, isolators, earthing/grounding, distribution changes, monitoring, labeling, commissioning and documentation.

What a quote should identify

PV array Module model, quantity, total DC rating, layout and expected production assumptions
Inverter Exact model, AC rating, MPPT/string design and backup configuration
Battery Exact model, usable capacity, power limits, quantity and communication method
Balance of system Mounting, cables, breakers/fuses, isolators, surge protection, earthing and enclosures
Work scope Electrical changes, civil/roof work, testing, commissioning, permits and cleanup
Support Workmanship warranty, manufacturer warranties, monitoring handover and service process

Package size does not equal performance

A “5 kW system” may refer to inverter AC power, PV array DC power or a marketing package size. Ask the seller to identify each rating separately. Storage should likewise be described in kWh and power in kW.
