Commission guidance structures the information burden
The European Commission published updated Digital Batteries Passport preparation guidance on 21 August 2026. It brings together 71 data points and indicates which are mandatory, optional or conditionally applicable for relevant battery categories.
February 2027 remains the key implementation date
The Commission states that from 18 February 2027 the battery passport requirement applies to covered electric-vehicle, light-means-of-transport and industrial batteries, including industrial batteries above 2 kWh. The guidance is preparation material and does not itself create additional legal requirements.
Why Melnti tracks it
Better structured battery identity and lifecycle data can affect future product documentation, verification and support workflows. Melnti should retain manufacturer evidence separately from public marketing claims and avoid treating a passport as a workmanship or installer-quality credential.
