METI approved temporary summer bill-support measures

Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry approved special measures allowing participating electricity and city-gas suppliers to apply government-supported discounts for July, August and September 2026 usage. METI lists different discounts for low-voltage electricity, high-voltage electricity and city gas, with the largest electricity discount applying to August usage.

Temporary support can distort a simple before-and-after savings estimate

A household comparing a solar or battery proposal with a subsidized summer bill should separate the temporary discount from the underlying tariff. Otherwise a project model can understate or overstate future savings when support ends. The same caution applies when comparing one month of bills across years.

Use normalized tariff assumptions for long-term planning

Melnti records the measure as Japanese market context, not as a forecast of future electricity prices. Long-term project analysis should identify the base tariff, time-of-use structure where relevant, temporary support and expected solar self-consumption separately so each assumption can be updated without changing the physical system design.
