Australia proposes SRES eligibility for 100 kW–1 MW mid-scale solar from October 2026

Australia’s Clean Energy Regulator says proposed SRES changes would extend small-scale certificate eligibility to 100 kW–1 MW solar installed from 1 October 2026, subject to regulations.

The proposed eligibility boundary would move upward

The Clean Energy Regulator says the government intends to make solar PV systems between 100 kW and 1 MW eligible to create small-scale technology certificates for installations from 1 October 2026, provided the necessary regulations are in place. Systems above 100 kW have historically sat under large-scale certificate arrangements.

This matters most to commercial and agricultural project structure

The change targets mid-scale systems commonly considered by businesses, industrial sites and farms. Certificate treatment can affect project administration and economics, but eligibility still depends on the final regulations and compliance requirements. Melnti therefore records the proposed start date and keeps it separate from any equipment recommendation.

Project quotes should identify the scheme assumption explicitly

A quote crossing the 100 kW boundary should state which certificate regime it assumes and what happens if commissioning timing changes. Buyers should ask installers to update the financial model once the final eligibility and documentation rules are published rather than treating the announced policy intent as an unconditional entitlement.
