ANEEL kept the yellow flag for September
Brazil’s electricity regulator ANEEL said on 28 August that the yellow tariff flag would remain in force for September 2026. The regulator states that the flag adds R$1.885 for each 100 kWh consumed and reflects less favorable generation conditions, including greater need for higher-cost generation.
The flag is a price signal, not a solar-payback promise
For households and small businesses, a higher marginal electricity charge can increase the value of avoiding some grid consumption, but the effect on solar or battery economics depends on the applicable tariff, taxes, consumption profile and system cost. Melnti records the flag as current market context rather than treating one monthly change as a reason to buy storage.
Use the current bill when modeling a project
Brazilian buyers should compare the exact distributor tariff, tariff flag and expected self-consumption rather than applying a national headline to every site. The update is useful for timing assumptions in a financial model, while equipment sizing still depends on measured load, PV yield, usable storage capacity and approved interconnection rules.
