Government data show strong installation activity
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero said on 27 August 2026 that nearly 172,000 solar installations had been fitted across the UK since the start of the year. The release also says installation totals increased across every UK nation and English region over the preceding 12 months.
Rooftop systems dominate the installation count
DESNZ reports that rooftop solar represented more than seven in ten installations during July. Installation counts should not be confused with installed megawatts because a small household system and a large commercial installation contribute differently to capacity even if each counts as one installation.
Melnti interpretation
The figures reinforce the commercial importance of UK rooftop solar, installer coverage and support content. Melnti will continue to treat exact network rules, tariffs and product eligibility as local or model-specific questions rather than using national installation growth as evidence that every project has the same economics.
