EPE reports record registration volume

Brazil’s Energy Research Office said in August 2026 that 6,091 projects had been registered for the 2026 Power Capacity Reserve Auctions focused on battery energy storage systems. EPE reports that the registrations represent 296,807 MW of power capacity, describing the volume as a record for participation in Brazilian power-sector auctions.

The auctions target system capacity and flexibility

EPE says the storage auctions were established under Ministry of Mines and Energy rules for contracting power capacity from new battery energy storage systems. The stated system objectives include contributing to security and reliability of the National Interconnected System and increasing operational flexibility.

Registration is not the same as awarded or built capacity

Melnti treats the 296,807 MW figure as registered project capacity. It should not be read as capacity that has been awarded, financed, constructed or commissioned. Later auction qualification and award results will determine how much of the registered pipeline progresses.

Melnti interpretation

The response signals substantial developer interest in Brazilian storage and supports continued coverage of commercial battery systems, grid services and qualified project providers. Product certification, project economics, interconnection and installer capability still need independent verification for each opportunity.
