ANEEL is preparing two battery reserve-capacity auctions
Brazil’s electricity regulator ANEEL said on 27 August 2026 that it would hold a public hearing on draft notices and reserve-capacity contracts for Auctions 05/2026 and 06/2026. ANEEL describes the process as the country’s first auctions intended to contract large-scale standalone battery energy-storage systems.
The two auctions have different sourcing rules
Auction 05/2026, described as National Storage, includes a requirement for batteries manufactured in Brazil. Auction 06/2026, General Storage, does not include that manufacturing requirement. Both are designed to contract availability of power from autonomous battery storage systems rather than treating the assets as ordinary solar generation.
December dates and long contracts matter
ANEEL states that the auctions are planned for 2 and 4 December 2026 respectively. The contracts are planned for 15 years, with supply beginning on 1 August 2028. Consultation contributions are open through 14 September 2026. Those dates make the process relevant to developers, equipment suppliers and grid-service investors tracking Brazil’s storage pipeline.
