Germany is a large, mature solar market

Germany ended 2025 with about 117 GW of installed solar capacity according to the Bundesnetzagentur, after around 16.4 GW of solar additions during the year. The regulator also recorded roughly 430,000 plug-in balcony solar installations registered during 2025. That scale makes product choice broad, but it does not remove registration, grid-connection or building-specific requirements.

Registration is a core step

The Bundesnetzagentur states that renewable-energy installations must be registered in the Marktstammdatenregister (MaStR), and its guidance says a renewable installation should be registered within one month of commissioning. Solar plants and stationary battery storage are part of the official register framework. Connection and notification steps can differ by system type and network operator, so buyers should not assume that a plug-in system and a full rooftop installation follow identical processes.

Balcony solar and full rooftop PV are different buying decisions

Plug-in balcony systems can lower the entry barrier, but a household planning larger rooftop PV, battery backup, EV charging or heat-pump integration needs a full system design rather than simply multiplying the size of a balcony kit.
