How to Compare Solar Installation Quotes

Compare solar quotes by equipment, system architecture, energy assumptions, installation scope, warranties, payment terms and installer capability—not the headline price alone.

Put every quote into the same structure

Two proposals with similar prices can describe very different systems. Normalize each quote into PV capacity, inverter output, usable storage, backup scope, exact models, installation work, monitoring, permits, warranties and total cash/financed cost before deciding which is cheaper.

Compare the exact equipment

Do not accept “Tier 1 panels”, “10 kWh battery” or “5 kW inverter” as enough detail. Require exact model numbers. Efficiency, battery output, cycle/warranty terms, MPPT ranges, grid approvals and expansion options can differ materially between products with similar headline capacities.

Separate system price from financing price

A low monthly payment can hide a longer term, dealer fee or higher total repayment. Compare cash price, financed principal, interest/fees, payment escalation if applicable and any lien or transfer conditions.

Compare what happens after installation

  • Who owns the monitoring account?
  • Who handles warranty claims?
  • What workmanship warranty applies?
  • Are roof penetrations covered?
  • What happens if the design changes after site inspection?
  • Who handles permits, grid approval and commissioning?

Use multiple written estimates

Consumer-protection guidance commonly recommends comparing multiple written estimates and checking licences, insurance, contract terms and references rather than automatically choosing the lowest bidder. Melnti quote matching is designed to keep the project brief consistent while allowing installers to recommend a different compliant configuration after site assessment.
