Do not choose between Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 and Growatt SPF 5000 ES by looking for the larger “5 kW” number. They represent different system architectures. MultiPlus-II is primarily an inverter/charger designed to sit inside a modular Victron system; the Growatt SPF family integrates off-grid inverter and PV-charging functions into a more compact path.

When Victron is the stronger starting point

MultiPlus-II is attractive when you want to design the system as separate building blocks: inverter/charger, MPPT controllers, battery bank, monitoring and transfer logic. That makes it easier to tailor large or unusual systems, but it also increases the importance of competent system design. The inverter alone is not a complete solar installation.

When Growatt can be simpler

The SPF 3000–5000 ES/ES LITE family is aimed at off-grid applications and combines more of the solar conversion path inside one product family. That can reduce component count for straightforward installations. The catch is regional variation: Growatt publishes multiple markets and product variants, so the exact data sheet for the unit being sold to you matters more than a reseller’s generic “SPF 5000” description.

Battery compatibility is not optional

A 48 V label does not prove closed-loop battery communication. Confirm operating voltage range, current limits, charge settings, CAN/RS485 support, communication cable requirements and firmware compatibility. If the system will run motors, pumps or air conditioners, compare realistic surge behavior too.
