North America Solar Research

Solar, storage and installer research across the United States, Canada, Mexico and the wider region.

Ground-mounted solar farm

North American solar decisions are highly local

The United States, Canada and Mexico contain very different electricity markets, and even within one country the utility territory can change the economics. A useful local page needs more than sunlight data: it needs the rules and service conditions that apply to the actual property.

United States

In the U.S., state policy, local permitting, utility interconnection and rate design can all affect the answer. The Department of Energy recommends checking roof suitability, installer quality, financing and the incentives or policies that apply to the property.

Canada

Canada has meaningful solar resource across many regions, but production, snow conditions, tariffs and interconnection rules vary by province and utility. Natural Resources Canada publishes solar-resource tools and guidance for grid-connected and off-grid PV.

What Melnti local pages should include

  • Utility and interconnection context
  • Current incentives from primary sources
  • Snow, wind, heat, wildfire or hurricane considerations where relevant
  • Products sold and supported in that market
  • Verified installer service areas down to city or neighborhood where possible
